FC Goa suffered a humiliating defeat in their first match of the Indian Super League, but midfielder Alberto Noguera is optimistic about the team's future in the tournament.
Noguera said, “We want to improve. I trust this team. I’m sure that if we can tweak a few things, we will be able to have a good season again. I trust this team one hundred per cent.”
FC Goa lost to defending champions Mumbai City FC 3-0. Former FC Goa star striker Igor Angulo scored twice and Brazilian Ygor Catatau also scored his debut goal.
As a result, FC Goa's 15-match unbeaten streak in the ISL has ended. The next match of FC Goa will be against Jamshedpur FC on Friday (26) at the stadium at Bambolim.
“Yes, I want (to take responsibility in helping the youngsters and turn things around), but not because I am a senior player, but because I am sure we can prove that this was just a bad day and nothing more than that,” Noguera added.
Noguera also talked about the team doesn't want to put too much emphasis on the past performances and wants to move ahead with positive intent. He said, “We don’t want to think too much about the past because that’s something we can’t change. The new game gives us a chance to prove ourselves again and we are looking ahead rather than looking back.
“As everybody saw, it was a very bad game for us. This happens in football sometimes. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. We can’t keep harping on that. We have to look forward to the next game. The challenge for us would be to understand what went wrong and look to improve and work harder.”
