Vasco Sports Club defeated Salgaonkar FC in the Goa Professional League on Tuesday, 28 December. The Port Towners won the match 1-0 at Duler Stadium in Mapusa.
Beevan D'Mello scored the winning goal for Vasco as he returned to competitive football. Bevan scored his third individual goal to give Vasco the lead in the 12th minute. Alvito Dias headed the ball towards Sanville DeCosta, who sent the perfect cross pass and set up Bevan to score the opening goal.
After taking an early lead, the Port Towners continued dominating the game as the Salgaocar failed to convert easy chances to score. In the 39th minute, Vasco goalkeeper Luis Barreto made an enormous blunder, but Daryl Costa's shot missed the target and failed to equalize for Salgaocar. After the mistake, Luis Barreto showed his keeping prowess as he blocked Chaitan Komarpant's penalty shot accurately to keep the Green Brigade at bay.
Vasco SC played out the remaining game and registered their fourth victory of the 2021-22 Goa Pro League. The Port Towners are second in the standings behind Dempo SC.
Referee Tejas injured
In the first half of the match, referee Tejas Nagvekar collided with a player from Vasco Club and was injured. Tejas had to be taken off the field and was replaced by fourth referee Shivram.
