Devesh Naik and Gunjal Chopdekar win the state level under-20 chess tournament

Devesh Naik and Gunjal Chopdekar won the state level under-20 chess tournament in the open category and girls' title, respectively that was organised by Dharbandora Taluka Chess Association at the KP Government College Hall.

Devesh Naik, Ruben Kulaso and Aniruddha Parsekar were tied at five points each from six rounds. But in the tiebreaker, Devesh had an incredible game and won the title. Reuben Kulaso and Aniruddha finished second and third. While Mandar Lad, Ethan Vaz and Partha Salvi finished fourth to sixth, respectively.

In the girls final, Gunjal Chopdekar defeated Asmita Ray to win the title. She earned four and a half points from five rounds. Netra Sawaikar was runner-up, while Asmita came third. Valanka Fernandes, Tanvi Hadkonkar and Janissa Sequeira finished fourth to sixth.

The top four from both under-20 age groups have qualified to represent Goa in the national competition that will be played in New Delhi on January 12.

Rajya Sabha MPs Vinay Tendulkar, Kishore Bandekar, Amrit Naik, Sanjay Kavalekar, Nitish Belurkar, Sameer Naik, Swapnil Hoble, Digambar Saval, Sanjay Belurkar were present at the event. While prizes were distributed in the presence of Balkrishna Vasta and Narayan Vasta.
