Despite assurances, Mormugao Municipal Corporation (MMC) workers continue to struggle to get their salaries. The workers on Wednesday visited the MMC chairperson's office to discuss the delay in getting their salaries
Regular salary delays have been a long-standing issue that continues to affect the needy MMC personnel and those who faithfully do their duties. In past, MMC workers have gone on strike, seeking their proper monthly compensation.
Jayant Tari, MMC Chairperson, said lesser revenue generation and recovery of outstanding dues by the council is the reason behind the delay in the payment.
He claimed that the payment of salaries was delayed due to the non-recovery of arrears during the Assembly elections.
The 'A' grade Mormugao municipality is in due to various reasons and the major issue is that the employees are not getting their salaries on time. The corporation owes crores of rupees.
President of the All Goa Municipal Workers' Union, Keshav Prabhu, said that due to the non-recovery of arrears of the corporation, the corporation is facing financial difficulties.
Since every employee is in debt, the salary is not credited to the account on time and the bank is struggling to recover the instalment.
Meanwhile, Vasudev Dhawade, General Secretary, Goa Municipal Employees' Union said, subsistence has become a concern. "The employee is in debt, and the bank is having difficulty collecting the payment. As a result, everything is in confusion," Dhawade said.
He further stated that the municipal administration is responsible for this. "The administration needs to take steps to find a proper solution."
Prabhu warned the employees to take to the streets if the issue of salary is not resolved within two days.
