Margao Fish Market Association filed a petition in Bombay High Court at Goa to stop alleged loot at South Goa Planning And Development Authority (SGPDA) wholesale fish market in Margao.

The fish market association president sought to blame the PDA officials for the mess created in the wholesale fish market.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, January 11, Margao Fishmarket Association President, Moulana Ibrahim, alleged SGPDA chairperson Wilfred ‘Babashan’ D’Sa involvement in the loot.

"Our organization had offered Rs. 17 lakh per month to SGPDA for SOPO, but SGPDA chairperson gave the contract to another contractor for Rs.15 lakh," he said.

He said that despite such a huge amount of money, there are no basic facilities in the market. "There is a muddy swamp as there is no facility to carry the dirty water. Insects swarm in it and sellers have to sell fish in such filthy places. If this market is handed over to our organisation, we will keep it clean".

He also demanded that government should investigate the entire matter.

A few days back, wholesale fish sellers in Margao had expressed their displeasure at the SOPO collector Milagres Fernandes with the collection of fees.
