Fatorda police on Friday, December 31 registered a case against Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai, and other supporters on charges of obstructing state highways, forming illegal mobs and preventing government servants from taking legal action.
Margao inspector Kapil Nayak said a case has been registered under section 143, 341, 353 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code.
Vijai Sardesai along with MMC chairperson Lyndon Pereira and his supporters came down on streets on Damodar Linga Junction, Fatorda and protested against the sabotage of roads work by the BJP government on Thursday, December 30.
As the protestors sat on the road and demanded that the PWD and contractors continue work on the projects, traffic was put out of gear along the main road entering Arlem. This resulted in a one-hour traffic congestion on the state highway, causing major inconvenience.
Speaking to media persons, Vijai said that we came on streets not to stop development but to re-start work that mysteriously stopped by the government.
He further said that this is the first time that people have come on the roads to demand execution while people in other placs are opposing the works.
The MLA and the police had a heated face-to-face argument over the road blockade.
Later the supporters along with MLA shifted to PWD head office in Fatorda. Sardesai demanded to know from PWD senior engineer Sanjay Volvoikar to why are the contractor were ordered to stop on the projects.
