Goa Director-General of Police (DGP) Indra dev Shukla on Thursday inaugurated high-resolution CCTV cameras at Verna Industrials Estate.
Speaking at a function in South Goa's Verna town, "Although the Goa government has installed CCTV cameras at several strategic locations for security of the people, more than half of them are still closed, but Verna Industrial Estate Entrepreneurs' Association has installed 54 camera on the highway on their own cost."
He said Verna is a very prosperous Industrial Development Corporation (DC) and CCTVs are a must not only for an IDC but for all. "It’s not just about law and order but also about the safety of people," he said.
The government has installed 350 cameras at strategic places but they are closed due to lack of adequate maintenance.
Shukla appealed to the private sector to take initiative to set up such a security mechanism.
