The Goa state police on Sunday, January 16, gave a guard of honour and gun salute to the two policemen who died after they hit by a speeding car in Seraulim
Several police officials attended the guard of honour ceremony at Ambaulim and Balli in Quepem. Both the slain policemen - Shaliesh Gaonkar and Vishwas Deykar - were the residnet of Quepem.
On Saturday night, a speeding car hit the cops when they were on a nakabandi duty near Dholayo garage. Gaonkar died on the spot while IRB constable Deykar died while being taken to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim. Colva police have arrested car driver Craig Rodriguez in connection with the case.
The accident took place at 12.10 pm last night when Rodriquez was speeding from Colvaa to Madgaon . At this time, four constables of Colva police station were on duty at the spot.
Condoling the death, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, "Anguished by the sad demise of Constable Shailesh Gaonkar and Vishwas Deykar while on Nakabandi duty at Seraulim. Goa Police is conducting further investigation in the matter. My deepest condolences to the families and kin of the deceased. Om Shanti."
