Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday, January 6, inaugurated the upgraded Mapusa bus stand.
The new upgraded Mapusa bus terminus has been built at a cost of Rs 4.91 crore.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D'Souza, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Shubhangi Waingankar, Deputy Chairperson Chandrasekhar Benkar and Councilor Prakash Bhivashet was also present at the inauguration event.
The new premises have a parking space for 50 buses, 64 two-wheeler vehicles, 44 four-wheeler vehicles, 50 autorickshaws and 11 tempos. The first phase of the project also includes the KTC office, passenger shed, driver's room, canteen, toilet. The new bus stand will also consist of a high mast and a ten-metre wide road leading to the Mapusa sub yard.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the bus stand has been constructed within a short period. "The government has planned to beautify the area around the river Tar and provide all the facilities within three years which will be beneficial for the people of Mapusa," he said.
He further said that once Mopa Airport starts functioning, Mapusa will become the number one city in Goa.
