Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas along with the Quelossim panchayat members, PWD officials and locals, conducted a site inspection of the road opposite the Toyota showroom at Verna which is prone to accidents. Vas promised locals that a short service road would be built for commuters and requested people to drive safely.
During the year's end, the accident saga is witnessed every year. People take the wrong way, speed, etc which causes accidents. One such spot which is infamous for vehicular mishaps is opposite the Toyota showroom along the Verna road.
On Monday, Cortalim MLA Vas along with Quelossim panchayat sarpanch, Verna locals and other officials held a site inspection of the road. Vas told the media after the inspection that he has promised the locals the building of a 3 metres width short-distance parallel service road from the Kesarval Hotel stretch to the Quelossim slope. Vas said he has asked the Quelossim panchayat body to send a proposal to him, and he will then take up the work by completing the further process.
He further urged the people to drive responsibly and carefully during the year's end to avoid any accidents. Vas said it is better to be late for five minutes than lose a life and be sorry.
Lopinho Xavier, a local from Quelossim also said that the road stretch opposite the Toyota showroom at Verna is prone to accidents as some people come onto the wrong side to take the slope and get onto the Loutolim road, and many times this causes accidents. He further said that despite the demand to have a traffic island at this junction, nothing has been done by the authorities.
