Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday evening said further improvements were needed to make the road between Varunapuri and Sada accident-free.
Gadkari was addressing a crowd after inaugurating the four-lane road port connectivity project between Varunapuri and Sada Junction in the presence of Transport Minister Mavin Gudinho, Public Works Minister Deepak Prabhu Pauskar and others.
Gadkari further said that about 75 per cent of the work has been completed and the road between Varunapuri and Sada junction is fully motorable and the work on the overbridge is pending.
"I am very happy to inaugurate the project which I started as the Minister of Roads and Shipbuilding and since then I have received MPT. While the project is nearing completion, we have three railway over bridges awaiting. Due to our persistence, we completed this project." he said.
Gadkari also said that other pending works would be completed within a year.
"I have noticed that this new four-lane road could have many accident sites and needs to be improved. We do not want people to be killed in accidents as this road will be used for heavy vehicles in and out of the port. I will study and instruct to improve the road immediately "
Gadkari said, "All ptholes will be repaired as a matter of priority and I have instructed my officials to immediately remove the encroachments along the road. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that the road is free of accidents."
Gadkari also announced a new Rs 400 crore project, which was approved at the request of Transport Minister Mavin Gudinho, to start a signal free tea junction at Bogmalo Road.
"At the request of Mavin Gudinho, I have approved another Rs 400 crore for Signal Free Tea Junction at Bogmalo Road. With this port connectivity project, we have noticed that work on about three railways and over bridges is pending and we will propose state-of-the-art girder technology so that there will be no need for central piers and no problem for railways and the rest can be completed," Gadkari said.
Gadkari had come to Goa to inaugurate and lay foundations to various projects before the upcoming assembly elections.
