VASCO: Transport Mauvin Godinho has stressed the need of starting at least one class in schools to follow motor vehicles act, traffic rules and also knowledge of Constitution of India. He was speaking as a chief guest at the annual social gathering-cum-prize distribution function of the Government High School, Vaddem Nagar, Vasco held at the Ravindra Bhavan, Baina. Vaddem Nagar English High School headmistress Shyamal Kamat was the guest of honor.

Speaking further, Mauvin said that discipline was important for every student to live with dignity for the rest of their lives. Stating that the national traffic safety week was also underway in the State, he appealed to the students and parents to obey motor vehicle rules and added that the new amended Central motor vehicle rules will be strictly implemented across Goa as it would help in reducing the accidents and help in bringing discipline among the vehicle operators. He said that it was often noticed that people don’t follow motor vehicle or traffic rules while driving or riding a two-wheeler. Therefore there was need to have discipline in life and it could be put to practice only at the young age and for this it was essential to have at least one class in schools where students can be given lessons on traffic signals and about the motor vehicle rules. Students must also follow the acts of Constitution of India in order to make India and Goa fundamentally strong besides, making students strong citizens with good moral character. The Minister further mentioned that there was no substitute to the hardwork and no absolute shortcuts in life. If teachers recognise the talent of students than it could take these students to the highest level. Every child has a talent and it was the duty of every student to make them extraordinary and only then it would deliver the results. Providing education was one of the biggest gift of parents to their children, Mauvin added.

Mauvin also complimented the headmistress, teachers and staff of the Government High School, Vaddem Nagar, Vasco for improving the standard of students by making available resources while commenting that government schools in the State were also facing difficulties due to lack of resources available to them. Earlier, the minister lighted a ceremonial lamp and later distributed prizes to the meritorious students. School headmistress Sunali Pednekar welcomed the gathering and read out the annual report of the school. Apolonia Rebello conducted the programme. Dabolim BJP Mandal president Sandeep Sood, general secretary Ajay Thorat, Dabolim BJP Mahila Morcha president Anita Thorat, Goa Housing Board board of director Sudesh Bhosle, social worker Brahma Pawar and PTA chairman Sarita Saroj were present on the occasion. The programme concluded by a cultural programme staged by students.
