The situation turned tense after some women clashed with Goa police while they were protesting against the proposed IIT project at Cotarlim-Sanguem.
Protesters and Goa police were present at the site till Monday evening.
The Sanguem IIT issue is getting murkier day by day with people taking to the streets to save, what they claim, is their cultivable land.
On Monday morning, Sanguem Mamlatdar, DySP and police inspector had come to the spot to ensure the marking of the site at Cotarlim where the project is undertaken.
DySP Nilesh Rane tried to pacify the angry crowd and requested them not to obstruct the police from doing their work, but in vain.
The protesters continued to obstruct the path leading to the site where the authorities had come to undertake the marking. What ensued are clashes between the police and the local women who tried their might to stop the former from reaching the site.
It may be recalled that over the last few days, some sections of the people are opposing the project and are demanding it be shifted elsewhere.
