VASCO: Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat on Saturday said that women were currently way ahead of men and becoming more self-sufficient and strong due to skill training courses, better education and safer atmosphere especially in Goa.

Speaking as a chief guest at the felicitation function at Cortalim, Kamat said that women from Goa were becoming self-sufficient by learning new skill training and taking good education. In Goa,the atmosphere for women was much safer and better than other places. Young generation girls were way ahead in sports, education and various other fields. He called upon local women to avail maximum benefit of skill training classes organised by the Cortalim panchayat members. Everything depends on hard work and consistency, he added.

Guest of honour Amita Nayak Salatry, who was also the guest speaker, highlighted the importance of women empowerment through skill training courses and good education. She appreciated the efforts and good response to the 15-day beautician course by the local women participants.

Cortalim panchayat member Anita Kenkre said that the 15-day beautician course classes were conducted free of cost and as many as 40 local women and girls completed the course and were felicitated at the hands of Amita Nayak Salatry and Digambar Kamat.

Former Cortalim deputy sarpanch and panchayat member Raymond D'Sa, former sarpanch Anton Joao Fernandes, social workers Kennedy Pereira and Joaquim Fernandes were amongst the others present for the function.

The fortnight-long beautician course for women was organised Anita Kenkre, who is also the treasurer of Mahila Shakti Abhiyaan, Mormugao.
