The two persons arrested in the murder of BJP functionary Sonali Phogat -- Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh -- have confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a drink and forced the deceased to have it.

This was revealed by Goa Police on Friday in a press conference, thus finally vindicating Phogat's family's claim all along it was murder and not a heart attack.

IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said the spiking of Phogat's drink is caught on the CCTV footage which has been recovered by the Goa police from Curlies at Anjuna.

In the CCTV footage, Phogat and her two other associates -- Sudhir and Sukhwinder -- are seen partying at Curlies. Bishnoi said one of the associates is seen forcibly making Phogat consume her drink.

Both the accused have confessed that they had spiked her drink with an obnoxious substance, he said and added, "More details will come out once the police get their custody from the court."

On consumption of the spiked drink, Phogat was unconscious, after which she was left in the washroom for two hours. She was brought out half-dead and taken to St Anthony's Hospital in Ajnuna, where she was declared dead.

Meanwhile, the last rites of Phogat were held in Hisar, Haryana, on Friday where a large number of people turned up to pay their last respects.

Phogat, who started her career as a news anchor, had found fame on the video-hosting platform TikTok and also acted in a few movies.
