Five suspected Covid-19 cases of Omicron variant have been detected in Goa on Monday, December 6.
According to sources, three are from Russian and two are from Georgia. All five persons had arrived in Goa on November 18 by a merchant navy ship after which their testing of the entire crew was done.
All the suspected cases have been admitted to the Community Health Centre at Cansaulim
Their samples have been sent for genome testing to confirm whether they are infected with the Omicron strain. The results of samples would be available in three days.
Health Minister Vishwajith Rane took to twitter and appealed to the people of Goa to not panic and take all the precautions
Several cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in India with Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi reporting new cases on Sunday. Currently, India’s tally stands at 21.
The first two cases were reported in Karnataka, followed by one in Jamnagar (Gujarat) and another in Maharashtra. Later on Sunday, seven cases were reported in Maharashtra’s Pune district, of which six belonged to the same family. In Jaipur, nine cases of the Omicron variant were confirmed. In Delhi, a man in his 30s was found to be infected with the new variant and admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
