Earlier in the day, Congress demanded that the government demolish the structure. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar alleged that the permissions to carry out the construction work were “fraudulently” obtained from different government departments by a BJP office-bearer.

Lok Sabha MP and All India Trinamool Congress Goa desk in-charge Mahua Moitra also met activists and civil society members who have been holding the protest at Old Goa. She said that she would raise the issue of illegal construction in Parliament.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) too demanded revocation of the construction licence and demolition of the under-construction structure at the global heritage and protected monuments area. AAP-Goa convenor Rahul Mhambre demanded a written assurance on action against the illegal construction.
