Advancements in agriculture are becoming a beacon of progress for farmers all over the world.
Advanced technology, the use of new resources and the commercial marketing of farm products by the Indian farmer have contributed to the country edging towards becoming a leader in the farming sector.
The government is doing its best to boost the agriculture sector by introducing schemes, training and other infrastructure for farmers. Drone technology for farming has been promoted already. Likewise, packhouses are another new resource which will help enhance commercial farming in Goa.
A packhouse is a facility where the processing and packing of farm products bought from farmers take place. This farm produce is cleaned, sorted and frozen at a certain temperature, packed and made ready for export.
Prakash Velip, the president of the Adarsh Krishi society and the Goa Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board, shared that a packhouse will be built near the Manohar International Airport, Mopa.
This decision came after the directors from the Goa Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board were impressed by the packhouse at Vashi, Mumbai.
The Mopa packhouse will be automatic or semi-automatic. Whether the Adarsh Krishi society or Goa Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board will run this facility is yet to be decided.
Farm produce like bananas, cashews, mangoes, coconuts, areca nuts, brinjals, chilli, radish and pumpkin can be transported either within or outside the country.
This will enable farmers to sell their farm produce and earn good money. Similarly, it will generate employment.
