Panaji: Stating that the mining issue will be resolved soon, Governor Satyapal Malik said that he has requested the Home Minister to meet the State government and support them as they have ‘formula’ to resolve this issue.
He was speaking on the sidelines after inaugurating the two day '45th Giants International Convention 2019-20’ at Taleigao community centre on Saturday.Also present on the occasion was world chairperson of Giant Welfare Foundation (GWF) and politician Shaina Nana Chudasama, Consul General of Russia in Goa Victor Albuquerque, Convention Chairman Sandip T Nadkarni, and World Chairman of GWF Rajesh C Joshi.
Speaking to reporters, the Governor said, “The way the chief minister and other Central ministers whom I met recently are working, I think the mining issue will be very soon resolved.”
He also said that other political parties should not oppose the government’s decision on Mhadei and mining issue. “I request the opposition not to play any politics over Mhadei and mining issue. If everyone stands together as a Goan, both these cases will be in favour of Goa.”
In his speech earlier, Malik also requested Shaina to stand with the government of Goa to tackle the mining issue.
“1.5 lakh families in Goa dependent on mining are sitting idle. Rs 200 crore revenue was generated through mining but now the there is no income. Tourism alone can’t help Goa’s economy, mining is important,” he said in his speech.
Expressing her views on the mining issue, Shaina NC said, “We love Goa and ensure that the environment is kept intact at the same time we understand the livelihood created by mining is a huge contention. I’m sure the government will come up with a conclusive solution.”
