Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), one of Goa’s largest hospitality companies, and leader in ethical business practices, reiterated its commitment to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainability on the occasion of World Environment Day recently.
IHCL’s sustainable initiatives across its properties in Goa are integrated into all aspects of operations, from waste management to energy efficiency.
Key practices include water conservation, wherein hotels operate sewage treatment plants (STPs) with ultra-filtration systems, ensuring zero discharge of wastewater and 100% reuse for irrigation.
Additionally, rainwater harvesting systems are employed to recharge groundwater. Effective waste management involves bio-composting of food waste and responsible disposal of waste oil and batteries through authorised sources.
Energy efficiency measures such as the use of acoustic insulation for DG sets, eco-friendly chemicals in housekeeping, and chemical-free cooling tower systems are implemented to reduce environmental impact.
Highlighting the company's commitment to sustainability in the face of global changes, Senior Vice President (Operations) for IHCL Goa, Ranjit Phillipose, said, "At IHCL, operations and services strive beyond hospitality and opulence to integrate sustainable practices in line with our ESG+ framework of Paathya.”
“Our belief in sustainable growth remains deep-rooted in our legacy, aligned with diversity, excellence and positive outcomes," he added. "The numerous conscious initiatives implemented across our wide spectrum of brands in Goa is a testament to IHCL’s continuous endeavour towards creating a more sustainable tomorrow.”
Moreover, IHCL Goa employees actively participated in the global effort to build awareness through sapling plantation and distribution, beach cleaning, informative interactive sessions and neighbourhood cleanliness drives.
Guided by Paathya, an approach that encapsulates efforts to drive positive change rooted in its core values of trust, awareness and joy, IHCL properties across Goa remain at the forefront of revolutionising sustainable tourism in the region.
