Goa, on Thursday (May 18, 2023) took a significant step towards sustainable transportation with the inauguration of 20 more electric buses which are new additions to the Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd fleet.
The buses have been delivered by PMI Electro Mobility, India's largest electric bus manufacturer. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant flagged off the buses at Cujira, Bambolim, adding a new dimension to mobility in Goa.
By transitioning from conventional to electric buses, Goa also took a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.
Electric buses are known for their energy efficiency and lower carbon footprint, making them an ideal choice for a greener future, avered CM Pramod Sawant.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said Goa's journey towards a pollution-free and eco-friendly future has been accelerated.
With the introduction of these buses, we are making progress in transforming our transportation system, he added.
Electric buses, specifically designed for the needs of all passengers, including individuals with disabilities,offer a range of advanced features that enhance comfort, safety, and efficiency.
These features include air suspension, real-time diagnostics, CCTV cameras, and panic buttons. With these additions, the buses not only ensure a comfortable ride but also provide a secure environment for passengers.
The buses are also equipped with automated digital fare collection systems, adding a new level of convenience for commuters. This feature enables faster and more efficient transactions, promoting a seamless travel experience for all passengers.
Satish Jain, chairman of PMI Electro Mobility said he was thrilled his company was playing a crucial role in enhancing Goa's public transport system while supporting the transition to eco-friendly mobility.
"By constraining carbon emissions and promoting sustainability, we join hands with the government of Goa to prioritise a greener future. Together, we will help the state to prevent over 13,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over the next decade, as we undertake this transformative journey towards clean mobility," he asserted.
