Goa, which has been witnessing a steady rise in Covid-19 cases, reported a massive spike in the number daily Covid-19 cases on Monday, January 3. The coastal reported 631 new cases as against 388 on Sunday in the last 24 hours.
The activec cases has breached the 2000-mark. The active caseload tally has reached 2240.
Health centres that recorded a significant increase in infections are Panaji (108), Margao (70), Porvorim (63), Mapusa (54), Candolim (49), Cansaulium (38) and Siolim (32).
Meanwhile, Goa on Monday, January 3, reported four new Omicron variant Covid-19 cases. Of the total Omicron cases, 1 had no travel history indicating indigenous spread of the virus, informed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
"Few samples that were sent to NIV Pune for genome sequencing have confirmed 4 more cases of Omicron in the state of Goa. 1 patient is from within the state of Goa, with no travel history, indicating indigenous spread which needs to be further examined," Rane tweeted
On vaccination, Goa kick-started the Covid vaccination for teenagers, aged between 15 to 18 years, on Monday, with 1068 vaccine doses being administered in Bicholim.
