The Goa BJP has welcomed the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court's verdict on the two petitions filed by Congress and MGP seeking disqualification of 12 MLAs who left their respective parties and joined the ruling BJP in 2019.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant welcomed the High Court's decision and said that democracy and constitutional mandate has prevailed over the smear campaign.
"I welcome the decision of Hon. High Court in dismissing the appeal filed by Congress and MGP against the merger of 12 MLAs into the BJP Legislature Party. Democracy and constitutional mandate have prevailed over the smear campaign!," Sawant tweeted on Thursday.
Goa BJP general secretary Narendra Sawaikar also welcomed the verdict.
"I welcome the judgement dismissing the petitions by Congress and MGP seeking the disqualification. While pronouncing the judgement the Hon'ble Judges stated that all the issues like deeming provision, split, merger, the effect of full bench judgement & other judgements etc. have been considered. However, I would like to read the judgement before making any further statement," Sawaikar said.
Meanwhile, Congress will challenge the High Court order while MGP executive committee will decide on whether to challenge the order or not in the coming days.
On Thursday morning, The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court dismissed two petitions seeking disqualification of 12 MLAs who left their respective parties and joined the ruling BJP in 2019.
