As the elections draw nearer and the model code of conduct in place, the district magistrates of South Goa and North Goa have banned the sale of liquor after 11 pm.

The order was issued late night on Friday and will be in place till the code of conduct is in force.

The order, issued under Section 144(1) of the CrPC, has stated the sale of liquor at pubs, bars, clubs and shacks will not be allowed after 11 pm.

The establishments are allowed to remain open and operate after 11 PM to offer other services. "The non-alcoholic shops and establishments will be open till late night as usual but if any liquor shops selling liquor are found after 11pm then the owners license will be revoked and criminal action will be taken against the shop owner," said Ruchika Katyal, District Collector.
