Journalism is more than just a profession, it is art of narrating the stories that our lives are made up of and the stories that live on even long after we are gone.
Be it through writing, films, poetry or music, living in a world without journalism would be a hopeless world to live in.
Don Bosco College’s (DBC) Department of Mass Communication and Club Filmatics are happy to unveil ‘Filmbuster 2024,’ an intercollegiate event that is all set to kick off on February 28, 2024.
The one day event will begin at 9 am and go on until 7 pm.
Addressing the media on Monday, Faculty in Charge, Sonika Lotlikar, said, “Filmbuster 2024 came to life after recognising that the Department of Mass Communication lacks an event of its own.”
Providing a platform for media students across Goa to come and test their skills, Filmbuster will feature offstage and on stage events with the motto to encourage journalism, filmmaking and other media related activities.
“We have invited several important people such as writers, directors and actors. There is constant activity going on in this film club throughout the year. Filmbuster is an initiative which is going to bring out the best of both, our students and the other participants that will attend the event,” chimed in Dr Cedric Silveira, Principal, Don Bosco College.
As explained by Devonna Gomes, President, Club Filmatics, the sub-events will include short film making in stop motion, reel making and fashion photoshoots to name a few.
And onstage events will start off by each college setting foot on stage and introducing the theme that they have chosen for themselves.
“Despite having worked at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) in the past and witnessing several events, there is something truly heart-warming about witnessing the enthusiasm of our college students who are working tirelessly to deliver a professional touch to the event,” smiled Lotlikar.
Included is ‘What If,’ an event that challenges participants on their acting and scripting skills, a fashion show and dancing; not forgetting the special hidden twist that will be revealed only on the day of the event.
Offstage events will include an innovative way of playing life-sized snakes and ladders, prop making and selling which will act as the perfect test for participants to work on their sales pitching skills.
With a brand new perspective to the Mr and Ms Pageant, Filmbuster has its participants working through the struggle of pursuing a career in the film industry.
“Journalism illuminates the essence of cinema. And, Filmbuster stands as testimony of our shared love for storytelling,” concluded Mario Pimenta, Mass Communication student and media coordinator.
