Panaji: With an aim to revive the dying trend of Indian classic cinema, non-profit organisation Ganga Zuari Academy in collaboration with the Entertainment Society of Goa is organising the first Bimal Roy Film Festival. The two day Film Festival will be held from February 8 and 9 at the Entertainment Society Goa auditorium.

Talking to GT, president of Ganga-Zuari Academy Bimal Dey said, "As one of the legendary directors, Bimal Roy was a pioneer in classic cinema. Through this film festival we want to revive the essence of classic cinema in the society and also pay tribute to the great filmmaker.”

Bimal Roy's daughter Rinki Roy Bhattacharya will be the chief guest for the event. A writer, columnist, and documentary filmmaker Bhattacharya is the founder and chairperson of the Bimal Roy Foundation. Her published works include Cuisine Creations from Bengal, The Man Who Spoke In Pictures: Bimal Roy, Behind Closed Doors: A Study of Domestic Violence, Janani: Mothers, Daughters and Motherhood, Bengal Spices, and Bimal Roy’s Madhumati: Untold Stories from Behind the Scenes.

Four of Roy's films including Parineeta, Yahudi, Sujata and Bandini have been selected to be screened at the film festival. The DVDs of the films have been specially brought from the National Film Archive of India, Pune, Dey informed.

The Ganga Zuari Academy is a non-profit cultural organization. Founded in 2007 It aims to encourage social harmony through inclusive cultural growth.
