Dabolim International Airport Expansion Project undertaken by the Airport Authority of India will be completed in 2023. The cost of this project is Rs. 256 crore.
The airport will have the capacity to handle 13 million passenger a year. At present the Dabolim airport has about 64,000 sq. mt, additional area of 18,000 sq.mt is added.
Speaking to media person, Director Gagan Malik said, " Expansion project of Dabolim airport is most likely to be completed in 2023. Additional area of 18,000 sq.mt is added to the project. Around 500 crore was spend to construct the new Dabolim Airport building."
Malik further said that the number of foreign tourist has declined due to the impact of Omicron variant and other factors for the season. However , the situation will return to normal by the next tourist season .
The construction of project was inaugurated in June 2021 by the Director Gagan Malik.
At Dabolim Airport, we are constantly striving to provide more and better services to the passengers. Passenger's considerations are taken into account as to what facilities should be available at the airport and what improvements can be made," said Malik
This year, due to Omicron virus, the charter airline was affected. As a result, some countries have cancelled their charter rounds.
Malik stated that about 450 tourists from Russia visited Goa two days ago. There have been 36 charter flights this season. It also includes Vande Bharat Seva. The charter service would be handled by next March.
