Vaccination for children against Covid-19 in the age group of 15-18 kicked off at 529 government hospitals, schools, and primary healthcare centres in Goa on Monday.

Several teenagers lined up at their schools and health centres to get their first shots. There are at least 72,000 children between the age of 15-18 years in Goa who are eligible to get their shots.

Currently, Covaxin is the only vaccine approved for children by the Centre.

Sharvari Naik, Medical Officer, Primary Health Centre Chimbel, who is overseeing the vaccination process at Mushtifund High School in Bambolim, said: "Around 150 to 160 children are expected to take their dose today. They have come along with their parents. The drive is also simultaneously held at Anjuman School, Santa-Cruz Higher Secondary School, KV high school and higher secondary."

The campaign drive will go on from January 3 to January 7, 2022, under the jurisdiction of Primary Health Centre, Chimbel, she said.
