Senior Goan IPS officer Bosco George, who is currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh, has been honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service on the eve of Republic Day 2022.
George is the only officer from Goa who has been selected for the medal. Across the country, it has been given to 88 police officers in this category as per the MHA list.
"I am really happy that I have been awarded the medal in Arunachal Pradesh. Working here is a challenge. I thank the DG of my state who thought I am worthy of receiving this award. I am extremely happy," George told Gomantak Times.
Hailing from Siridao, George has served in Goa and Arunachal Pradesh in various capacities. He had his first posting as Sub-inspector at Panaji Police and was instrumental in handling Law and Order situations.
In 1998, he was posted as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Margao, Vasco, Quepem. He has also held 3 tenures as the head of the Anti-corruption Branch in Goa. He was instrumental in the smooth conduct and security arrangements of BRICS SUMMIT in 2016 as well as the BRICS U-17 Football tournament held in Goa.
In 2018, Geroge was inducted into the IPS and was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh. He is presently posted as SP(Security) along with an additional charge of Commissioner to GOvernor of Arunachal Pradesh.
The senior IPS officer has also received DG'S insignia for excellence in 2017, Chief Minister's Gold Medal for Meritorious Service in 2017 and Indian Police Medal (IPM) for Meritorious Service in 2015.
Meanwhile, the Centre government has announced the 939 police medal on Republic Day eve. These include 189 personnel selected for Police Medals for Gallantry, 88 for president's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 662 for Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Goa's Deputy Superintendent of Police Salim Sheikh and Police Constable Sudhir Talekar has also been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
