The 75th year of India's Independence is a grand celebration across the country, and Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) in collaboration with Caculo Mall, St Inez, Panjim will have 75 specially-abled and underprivileged citizens of the state hoisting the national flag.
The idea is to put the spotlight on celebrating the lives of citizens in the state.
President of Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG), Avelino de Sa, said, "On the sidelines of this event, we have also planned to organise sessions on sign language, financial planning, rights of persons with disability and related subjects during the three-day event between August 13 and August 15."
"DRAG has been working for the past two decades to raise awareness on inclusiveness of the disabled into society, and we are pleased to see the support we have received. There is more to be done for the community and we appeal to people to come forward and support us this Independence Day," he said.
From August 13, 2022 to August 15, 2022, Caculo Mall, Panjim, will provide disability groups a platform to sell their products and wares, which include carpentry, painting on stone, crafts, embroidery and more.
Director of Caculo Mall, Shamik Caculo, spoke about the importance of the 75th Independence Day of the country or Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav and and said, "We wanted a very special group of people to be the VIPs, who will hoist 75 national flags. The efforts and achievements of many often go unrecognised. We wanted to change that. We reached out to DRAG, Rotary and other NGOs, and are extremely happy. We are now working together to celebrate the achievements and lives of people on Independence Day."
