Goa reported six more Omicron cases after six travellers who had arrived in the state from the United Kingdom tested positive for Omicron infection.
The tally of Omicron cases in Goa rose to 11, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted late at night.
"Six more samples sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune had tested positive for Omicron variant of coronavirus. All six are travellers from the UK and are asymptomatic. Total cases 11," he said.
The first case of Omicron was detected in Goa on December 28. The coastal state is witnessing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases with 592 fresh infections reported on Tuesday.
Despite the huge spike in infections, hospitalisations haven't begun to rise. There are 9 people who were hospitalised while 67 people have recovered in the last 24 hours.
Director of Health services Dr Ira Almeida said that the third wave of the pandemic has begun in Goa on December 28.
Meanwhile, 15,000 children in the age group of 15-18 gave been administered the first dose of vaccine in Goa.
