Vasco Congress block president and former general secretary Ularico Rodrigues resigned from his position on Tuesday, November 30.
Rodrigues has resigned form his position so that he becomes eligible for the Congress ticket from Vasco as Congress Goa in-charge P. Chidambaram had earlier announced that party tickets would not be given to the group presidents.
"If we recall AICC election observer for Goa P Chidambaram during a meeting with active workers in Vasco had said that block presidents would not be given tickets. In view of that, I have submitted my resignation, so that there is no hurdle in the way of considering my candidature for the Congress ticket from Vasco," Rodrigues said.
He further said he is only person to qualify for all the criteria laid down by the party for candidates. Hence, there should not be any dispute for the Congress candidate from Vasco.
Rodrigues is a veteran Congress leader who joined the party in 1984. He was promoted to the post of General Secretary and other posts in Congress.
He also became the Mayor of Mormugao municipality Municipality in 2004. On September 10, 2019, he was elected as the Vasco Congress group president.
