A day after he resigned as a MLA, former minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday, December 17, joined the BJP ahead of Goa Assembly elections in the presence of Goa BJP elections in-charge Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane along with his hundreds of supporters.
Speaking at his induction programme, Khaunte said, "I criticise CM Pramod Sawant a lot but now we have come together. People questioned me a lot on this but I would like to say that the decision of joining BJP has been taken by all panch, sarpanch and zilapanch.
The two-time independent MLA said that his supporters and well-wishers after analysing the political situation suggested that BJP is the only party that can provide stable and pro-development governance.
He further said the agreement and differences on a particular subject is part of politics and is ready to work with Pramod Sawant. "I will work along with CM Sawant for the betterment of the state," Khaunte said.
He also took a dig at opposition parties in that state, saying that Congress has already left the battlefield to TMC to invade the voters.
On Wednesday, Khaunte submitted his resignation to the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Khaunte, who has been elected twice as an independent from the Porvorim constituency, was earlier planning to join the Congress ahead of the upcoming legislative assembly polls, Khaunte, on December 10, had said that he would contest the next election as an independent candidate again. He was also in the fray to join TMC and was among many regional leaders who had met TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee during her first visit to Goa.
