With Goa Assembly elections just a few days away, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday campaigned door-to-door for the Congress candidate Dharmesh Salgani in Sanquelim on Tuesday, February 1.
In Sanquelim, Congress candidate Dharmesh Saglani is pitted against incumbent BJP MLA and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
During his door-to-door campaign, Chavan urged people to vote for the Congress party and ensure defeat of BJP.
"Congress MLA Dharmesh Salgani will become a definite minister by defeating Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and will show the development of the chain that the Chief Minister could not do," Chavan said.
He said Congress government has always played a major role in the development of Goa and Goans have always supported the Congress. "The people of Goa are ready to elect a Congress government once again in this year's elections," he said.
Chavan appealed people to give elect the Congress with a clear majority so that the "development that has been stalled for the last five years can flourish once again."
Salgani hit out at the BJP government, saying BJP government's double engine has failed in the state. "The resumption of mining is a false promise, during our door-to-door campaign, we saw workers crying. The BJP government has spread unemployment in the mining sector," he said.
Salgani assured that if Congress comes to power then mining will be resumed in three months and priority will be given to setting up industrial estates to eradicate unemployment in the Sanquelim constituency.
Former MLA Pratap Gavas, former mayor Sunita Verekar, former sarpanch Pravin Blaggan, Mayor Raya Parsekar, Deputy mayor Rajesh Sawal and other party workers also participated in the campaign.
