Living under the tag of a simple man with a simple lifestyle, Cortalim Independent MLA Antonio Vaz on Tuesday reached the Goa assembly complex on his scooter for the swearing-in ceremony and surprised everyone.
Vaz had promised his constituents during his election campaign that he would lead a simple life even after his victory and on his first day in office he would ride his bike to the Assembly.
"I always use the bike. There are a lot of traffic jams and sometimes there is an emergency, so I made it a habit to travel on the bike," Vaz said.
His photo as well as the video of him going to the Secretariat on a scooter went viral and was greeted with applause and good wishes from all over Goa. Many newly elected members went to him to congratulate him to set a new standard of simplicity for a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
"I will come for the assembly sessions by bike unless it is an emergency," Vaz declared.
