The Congress on Sunday, January 9, released its second list of candidates for the 2022 Goa assembly elections.
The names of candidates were finalised after a meeting of the central election committee of the Congress, and it was chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, according to a statement.
The list has seven names for the February 14 single-phase polls for the 40-member state assembly, and with this, the party has named 15 candidates out of 40 seats.
Congress has picked up Rodolfo Louis Fernandes for the St Cruz constituency while MLA Avertano Furtado has been picked up for the Navelim seat. Viriato Fernandes will contest against BJP's Mauvin Godino in Dabolim while former Olencio Simoes will fight it out in Cortalim for Congress.
Jitendra Goankar has been named party candidate for Pernem Constituency while Manisha Shenvi will contest from Valpoi.
Goa Congress Desk in charge Dinesh Gundu Rao took to Twitter to congratulate the party's candidates in the second list. He also mentioned that Congress has allotted Mayem and Fatorda to its ally Goa Forward Party.
"Along with this list @INCIndia Central Election Committee has alloted 16-Mayem and 30-Fatorda to the @Goaforwardparty for the ensuing Assembly Elections in Goa. The Congress had last month declared the names of eight candidates for the elections," Rao tweeted.
Congress had announced its first list of candidates on December 16 in which eight candidates were named, one of them - Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco - who quit the party and joined Trinamool Congress.
