Congress approves candidature of Pratapsingh Rane from Poriem
The Central Election Committee on Wednesday, December 22, approved the candidature of former Chief Minister and 11-time MLA Pratapsingh Rane as the party nominee for the Poriem constituency for the upcoming 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
In a press release, Mukul Wasnik, General Secretary, in charge of CEC, said, "The Central Elections Committee has approved the candidature of Shri Pratapsingh Rane as Congress candidate for the forthcoming general election to the Legislative Assembly of Goa from 198 - Poriem constituency.
This announcement comes after Health Minister and son of Pratapsingh Rane, Vishwajit Rane, said that he would contest from Poriem as BJP candidate against his father and was confident of a win.
He said that his octogenarian father was under pressure to contest the election from the Congress's central leadership at a time that he should be hanging his boots.
Vishwajit said that he still feels that Senior Rane may change his mind but in case, that doesn't happen, he was prepared to wrest the Poreim seat from his father.
However, Congress leadership's decision to make the Pratapsingh Rane contest from Poriem has set in motion an unexpected electoral duel between father and son.
