Benaulim Congress Block Committee president Menino Fernandes on Friday, January 28, resigned from the party and joined Trinamool Congress in the presence of West Bengal Minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia and TMC leader Churchill Alemao.
He resigned from Congress in protest of the party's decision to field Tony Dias from Benaulim for the upcoming Goa Assembly election.
Speaking to media persons, Menino said, "The reason I left congress is that the Congress Goa observer P.Chidambaram said the block committee will decide the candidate, but ultimately at the last minutes, he (Tony Dias) puts his name and he got the ticket".
The Congress block committee had recommended four names for candidature for Benaulim constituency- Edwin Barreto, Royla Fernandes, Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco and Trevor Fernandes - , however, none were considered.
He said he would work all out to ensure the victory of Churchill Alemao in the Benaulim constituency.
Churchill Alemao criticized the Congress and said this proves that the Congress party does not value ordinary workers.
