St Anthony is one of Goa’s most beloved Catholic saints. While the feast of St Anthony is on June 13, it is celebrated on the Sunday following that day in the village of Siolim, in North Goa, and draws hundreds of devotees on the novena and feast days.
This year, the novenas of St Anthony begin on June 3, 2024, at St Anthony’s Church, Siolim, where grand celebrations are held.
Novenas typically span 9 days, however, the feast of St Anthony is preceded by 13 days of preparation known as trezena (from the Portuguese word treze, meaning ‘thirteen’), and not novena (derived from the Latin word, novem, meaning ‘nine’).
