With Christmas just four-five days away, there's quite a mad rush with people busy doing last minute Christmas shopping. And, if you are one of those people, who still has to do a bit of Christmas shopping, then you should definitely pay a visit to the 'Made in Saligao' Market, held every Tuesday at Saligao Institute.
The "Made in Saligao" market started in late 2019, and has been going strong in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown. The original idea behind setting up the market was to empower the villagers, and more importantly, the women.
One can find many homemade products as well as fresh produce at this weekly market. Not only has it given a platform for the villagers of Saligao, but it has also brought out their hidden talents. And, what's really amazing is their range of Christmas products this year, which have been made by not just the elderly, but also the youth.
There are various homemade Christmas sweets, festive decorations, handmade gift items such as soap, candles, crochet work, milk cream, terracotta, painted glass bottles with Christmas themes, live music by father-daughter duo from the village Paul and Leandra, fruit cakes, découpage, macramé art and much more.
The event is also a fun place to visit as there is live Christmas music, giving the spot that Christmas vibe, and a friendly warmth with all the villagers getting together to put up this festive market.
The next "Made in Saligao" market will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Saligao, from 4 pm to 8 pm. There will be live festive music and fabulous Christmas treats and more.
