The forests of Mollem are known for their flora, fauna, wildlife sanctuaries and waterfalls. But, there’s one feature, which is not very well-known – a patch of the forest bursts into full bloom with Karvi flowers, a rare event that occurs only once in 8 years.
Goa-based Elle Agri Treks and Tours will journey through the jungles of Mollem, in South Goa, to see these masses of unique flowers up close on September 24, 2023.
After witnessing the beautiful sight, participants will head to RasRaj Goa Farms, in Mollem, where they will get a chance to swim in the pristine Dudhsagar rivulet which flows through the farm.
That will be followed by a tour of the farm, and they will also discover the art of integrated farming, which earned the owners of the farm the coveted Krishi Ratna in 2021.
The farm tour will feature beekeeping, dairy, plant nursery, vermicomposting and plantation.
A Goan lunch, refreshments and evening tea will also be included.
ABOUT KARVI
Karvi plant (Strobilanthes callosa) is a shrub generally found in the low lying hills of the Western Ghats, along the west coast of India. It is a large shrub, reaching 6 to 20 ft in height, and flowers between July and September.
This plant takes nearly a decade for the bloom cycle to occur. Once the rainy season is over, all that is left is dry and dead-looking stems.
