On Wednesday, February 22, a conjunction of the Moon and Venus will occur in the western sky, and at the same time, this conjunction or grouping will be in alignment, or in a straight line with the planet Jupiter.
Next evening, in a spectacular cosmic show, the crescent Moon, Jupiter and Venus will all be aligned in a perpendicular formation, all equidistant to each other.
Both events are visible in the western sky approximately above the sunset point between 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm.
The Association of Friends of Astronomy (Goa) has made arrangements at different places to view the phenomena.
On February 22, public observations will be held at the Public Astronomical Observatory at Junta House, Panjim, as well as Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Observations will be also held simultaneously at L D Samant High School, Porvorim, and Harmal Panchkroshi Higher Secondary, Harmal.
February 23 will see the programmes being held at the Public Astronomical Observatory at Junta House, Panjim; Ravindra Bhavan, Margao; L D Samant High School, Porvorim; Saraswat College ground, Khorli, Mapusa; Harmal Panchkroshi Higher Secondary, Harmal, Vasco; and Shree Mallikarjun Vidyalay, Canacona.
Programmes on both days will be held between 6.45 pm and 8 pm, and entry will be free for the general public.
