LEARN TO CLIMB A COCONUT TREE
This Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the ‘Made in Saligao’ community market is organising a karaoke contest duet/duo at Saligao Institute, Saligao.
Anyone over the age of 15 years is eligible to participate, while songs can be sung in English, Konkani or Hindi.
There will also be demos on coconut tree climbing and traditional broom-making.
Participants will learn the techniques involved in making a traditional Goan broom using the leaves of a coconut palm. There is no fee for this session.
Estella Pires, agricultural consultant and owner of Casa de Vegetais, South Goa, will explain how to climb a coconut tree using a tree-climbing gadget and safety harness. This session costs ₹ 100 per person, and is open to those in the age group of 15 to 45 years.
As usual, there will be live music, while a variety of handmade items and traditional Goan food products will be on sale.

COMUNIDADE AWARENESS FELLOWSHIP
The Comunidade Awareness Fellowship is organising its fifth forum to deliberate on the wider role of ‘Women in Comunidades’ at Casa do Povo Hall, Goa Velha, on February 24, 2024.
The role of women in Comunidades will be the main focus of the discussion revolving around Article 652 of the Code of Comunidades on January 14, 2024.
Dr Meenacshi Martins and Dr Lourdes Bravo da Costa Rodrigues, Savio Correia, Shailesh Henriques and Tome Carvalho will discuss the subject.
Michael Mendonca from the Comunidade of Anjuna will speak about the issues faced by members of the Comunidade. This will be followed by an interaction, which will be moderated by well-known author and journalist, Alexandre Moniz Barbosa.
The previous four meetings were held in Porvorim, Margao, Navelim, Sanquelim and Moira.
