Believed to be invented and played by Shiva, the Rudra veena is India's most ancient string instrument. The Rudra veena is a large, plucked string instrument used in Hindustani music.
It is said to be a powerful spiritual instrument with the power to annihilate evil and garner peace. Sadly, with the popularity of instruments like the sitar and the sarod, the playing of the Rudra veena has been on the decline.
In an attempt to revive a dying art, Anam Prem has organised a Rudra veena concert called Guru Vandana. "Guru" meaning "teacher" and "Vandana" meaning "worship".
This concert is a tribute to the teachers (gurus) at Anam Prem from their disciples who have been learning the Rudra veena. The concert will be a full day function and will be held on January 26, 2023, at Panjim.
The inaugural will begin at 10 am at the hands of Pt Carsten Wicke, and the first session will commence at 10.30 am to 12.00 pm and 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm, after which there will be an interval break. The second session will begin at 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm.
Hoping to attract public interest, they are encouraging the youth to learn the Rudra veena and have even started giving classes in a school in Karwar.
