‘Eco Walks by the Serendipity Arts Festival 2022’ is an attempt to bring people a few holistic steps closer to their surroundings, making them relive the stories, legends which are linked to the numerous ecological hotspots in Panjim city, including urban woods, parks, gardens and mangroves, through a series of walkalongs and workshops.
Exploring the possibility of creating a network of floating gardens in Panjim along the course of the St Inez creek, as well as a series of walkalongs and an exhaustive, yet interesting workshop, are just some of the elements of 'Eco Walks by the Serendipity Arts Festival 2022', an interactive project which aims at connecting the people of Panjim to the city's immense natural heritage, which exists within the state capital and its fringes.
DISCOVERING THE TREASURES OF PANJIM
The project, headed by artist Vishal Rawlley is also aimed at providing people with critical perspectives on ecology, history, culture, health and aesthetics with distinguished experts unveiling the myriad treasures that are housed in the riverine city.
Rawlley uses community involvement, DIY craft and public art in the hope of bringing people together to make them aware of the social and environmental challenges around them.
Vishal will also host an exhaustive workshop to put the spotlight on a breakthrough concept about the possibility of engineering ‘Floating Gardens’ in the city.
This workshop takes into account Panjim’s unique water drainage system and taps the St Inez creek’s potential to create a series of floating gardens along its course, while expounding on the prospects of restoring the priceless estuary. As a living water body, the creek serves as a habitat and refuge for local flora and fauna and restoring it to its prime can help restore the biodiversity of the area along it.
According to Rawlley, ‘Floating Gardens’ can combine blending of beautiful natural objects backed by scientific research, into the creation of regenerative environments.
