Goa’s Good Karma Treasure Shop in Anjuna brings you the 'Bombay Closet Cleanse' so you can thrift to your heart’s content for some excellent deals.
The pop-up thrift shop will have a vast array of pre-loved items on sale on September 28 and 29, 2024, from 11 am to 9 pm.
Founder of Good Karma Treasure Shop and Offbeat Goa, Vijaya Josephine Pais, says, “Our store has an all-woman team, and we give 25 percent of the proceeds to different local NGOs every month, along with raising awareness about the work the NGO is doing."
"Community and circularity are at the centre of what we do,” she adds.
Schulen Fernandes, who was creative head and head designer of the Wendell Rodricks label, is Vijaya’s business partner in the Good Karma Treasure Shop venture.
Talking about the collaboration with Bombay Closet Cleanse, Vijaya says, “Bombay Closet Cleanse is a lovely women-run thrift store, as is ours, but based in Mumbai! They reached out to us in July with the idea of a pop-up collab at our store. Thrifting for us is a solution to aid the post-consumer textile waste crisis.”
Shoppers at the Bombay Closet Cleanse’s pop-up thrift store will be able to rummage through women and men’s clothing, luxury and vintage pieces, swimwear, corsets, accessories and curvy clothing for a steal, with some pre-loved gems priced as low as Rs 99.
As with all thrift shops, the premise is escaping the vicious grip of mindless consumerism. Recycling and reusing items is encouraged, thus saving the planet from enormous additions to landfills.
The products are in near-mint condition. Some cannot be distinguished from brand new items.
Alfiya and Sana Khan of the Bombay Closet Cleanse started off as a home garage sale that has now become an enterprise that teams up with other similar brands and organises thrift pop-ups and has its own stores in Bandra and Versova.
They curate their collections from other thrift stores, second-hand markets, export surplus stores and donors.
Bombay Closet Cleanse encourages you to shop, swap or sell your pre-loved items. There are people who have clothes sitting in their cupboards without ever being worn.
Exchanging, selling or donating them at a thrift store would be the most sustainable action.
In a similar vein as the Good Karma Treasure Shop, Bombay Closet Cleanse also donates part of its proceeds to charities.
Vijaya, commenting on the need for collaboration over the capitalist rat race, says, “We are always happy to collaborate with like-minded people who share the same values. It's important for more people to shift to thrift, especially at this time when climate change is raging."
"In our capitalistic world, where competition is glorified, we prefer reaching the same goals through collaboration. It's always more impactful.”
Don’t miss this occasion to acquire some one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories and other products at affordable rates, all while being environmentally conscious and a friend to our planet.
