Goa is known for its hospitality, for its sun and sand, and its hinterland is now poised to make a mark as an Eden. For, ensconced over 42 acres in the jungles adjoining Cuncolim, in South Goa, is Eden Farms, a property whose tagline is ‘Difficult to find, but once discovered, difficult to forget’.

The 53-year-old owner, who likes to live life ‘simple’, believes giving is the essence of life, and runs his property on this principle.

“We come as simple children of God and that is the way it should be,” says the owner of Ama Stay and Trails at Eden Farms in Cuncolim, South Goa.

Ama Stay and Trails, or Eden Eco farms, as it is more popularly known, took time to take shape since the idea was to, “make a dwelling where human and nature co-existed,” and the owner, along with artist Sunil Da Costa, did just that.

The property hosts five villas and four cottages, with tariffs ranging from Rs 6,000 to Rs 18,000 a night.

The property has an artificial lake, a swimming pool, play areas, a restaurant, and acres and acres of land, trimmed and tapered, to co-exist with the forest that guests can walk through.

“Life is not about being known,” says the owner, and requests not to divulge his name, “but best lived simple under the eyes of God. I have a friend who had this crazy idea of developing my land, and it is his creation that you see today.”

The drive from the main gate of the property to the reception is almost a kilometer long through, which one traverses flora and fauna that are part of Goa.

The property is run by the Taj Group of Hotels and Cluster villa manager, Navneet Sharma, who soaks in the energy of the area as he steers his team to cater to the needs of his clients that pour in from across the country.

“We have a lot of clients that come here to seek solace from the maddening rush of today. Over here, we make you feel you are with us and without us. The space is big and it is this sort of space that we are offering our clients,” stresses Sharma.

The restaurant does not serve a la carte food, but has a planned menu that changes daily.

“We charge Rs 1,000 a day for meals for a guest. Both, vegetarian and non-vegetarian, meals are available, while the bar and restaurant is still not open to walk ins,” observes Sharma, who has been part of the Taj Group for years.

The government of Goa has been talking of hinterland tourism, and Ama Stays and Trails is the answer or could be one of the answers. The place is simple and breathes luxury through the greenery and the forest that caresses it.
