It's the time of the year when many Hindus fast and several others opt for vegetarian food, as their calendar flips to Shravan, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Making scrumptious Shravan special delicacies at home and restaurants serving special menus especially curated for the month have been a norm. Since families across the country bring out their traditional Shravan recipes, and as most of them are home-cooked, they are rarely savoured outside that State.

But here’s a change, for Misu Restaurant and Bar, Blu Missel by The River in Ribandar has decided to explore Shravan cuisine from across the country this month. At this restaurant, you can taste Shravan cuisine from three States on consecutive Fridays, starting today with the Himachali Thali, followed by Odisha Thali on August 16 and Maharashtrian Thali on August 23.

Cooking Shravan food started off as a chat among the chefs and then they decided to act on it and work towards giving people a taste of their authentic Shravan cuisine.

Explaining the concept, Monali Vadiyar, co-founder of Misu, says, “Each Indian State has its unique traditions and foods associated with Shravan. So, we decided to offer Goa a different experience from the regular Goan Shravan thali.”

Our team hails from various parts of India and bring their special recipes to the table. So we decided, why not have them curate the dishes and design a menu that brings authentic flavours.

She adds that there are some tasty dishes made by the chefs from those regions. In the Himachali Thali, around 13 unique dishes will be served ranging from meetha bhat, chana madra, babru, mahni and more.

The monsoons bring in leafy greens, which makes it the special ingredient for a perfect Maharashtrian thali. Monali adds, “The 14-item Maharashtrian Thali (August 23) will include shevga shenga amti, masala vanga, akha masoor usal, mataki kadan, amrakhand and solkadhi.
