Sunday mornings are a breath of fresh air. A much-needed break from the hectic schedule that the week strings along is forgotten for a brief second when the clock strikes midnight.
Sleeping in late calls for a relaxing meal, but it’s too late for breakfast and definitely too early for a heavy lunch.
At times like these, brunch comes to the rescue! Giving their weekly Sunday brunch a twist of flavours, ‘Comida,’ the in-house restaurant at Double Tree by Hilton in Panjim on Sunday, February 25, 2024 hosted a ‘Seafood Brunch,’ where, of course, seafood was the highlight.
The luncheon which began at 1 pm and went on until 4 pm was priced from ₹1500 onwards, per head.
An ultimate food fest, the brunch, as explained by Executive Sous Chef Ritesh Raje, consisted of several live stations that served seafood delights, chaat, Mexican burritos and nachos and American chop suey among other dishes.
“The seafood component has been incorporated into everything so that it fits the theme. I am happy to see the restaurant occupied today and I think it is safe to say that the response is always good. We generally have 40 to 50 covers every Sunday,” says the content chef who moved to Goa as recently as in December 2023.
The starters were of seafood and the salads had an element of surprise with the addition of squids. A burst of flavours upon the first bite, the coastal seafood had been marinated with Goan masalas and proved to be a fusion of the two things we love the most – Goa and its seafood!
“We generally don’t have two seafood soups, but since today was special, we have seafood chowder soup and Goan style seafood soup,” explained Chef Ritesh who is a big fan of Goa.
Apart from this, there was also a red snapper carving and South Indian and Goan fish preparations. As for biryani and rice lovers, the mouthwatering prawn biryani was just one of the many choices they could opt for.
“Brunch happens every Sunday, it is only the theme that keeps changing every week. The set up and price range is almost the same. Next Sunday will be a Women’s Day special brunch,” smiled the chef.
The acoustic mood was perfectly set by Gloria who was singing melodiously with a smile on her face and a mic in her hand as she was seated just beside the dessert table that displayed an array of delectable desserts such as Vietnamese coffee jelly, exotic mousse cake, mango cheesecake, pistachio mousse cake and several more laid out for the guests.
“As for this Sunday, people are enjoying the seafood brunch and this comes as no surprise because Goa is known to be the land of seafood,” the chef concluded, as he recommended to the cheerful couple on table number 14 that they try the prawn biryani and South Indian fish preparation.
Sundays and brunch sound like the perfect little getaway. And, Double Tree by Hilton is sure to keep the themes interesting Sunday after Sunday!
