The weather often dictates what we crave the most.
Five steaming hot momos on a rainy evening. Sucking on a kala khatta ice gola until your lips turn purple on a summer evening at the beach. A cup of hot chocolate brushing against your lips as you try to take a sip on a cold winter morning; come monsoons, summer or the winter – the weather often dictates what we crave most.
But having said that, there are some cravings that don’t shake, no matter the weather – and chaat is one of them!
Right from mouth-watering Pani Puri in the summer, to tangy Shev-Puri during the monsoons, saying no to chaat is a shocker. And, whether you are on vacation or have begun to call Goa your home, here are 7 places that you can label as your ultimate chaat fix.
1. Chaat Di Hatti
The name speaks for itself at Chaat Di Hatti in Tonca in Panjim. Step into the world of Chaat and eat your fill and beyond as you fulfil all your chatpata cravings under one roof.
2. Sweet Nation
The seats at Sweet Nation are always taken, and for all good reasons. With a pleasant ambience and good quality of food, there is more than one reason why Sweet Nation’s customers keep coming back for more.
Right from Aloo Tikki Chaat and crispy Dahi Kebab to Raj Kachori Chaat and Pani Puri, visiting Sweet Nation whenever you are in Panjim or Margao is a must.
3. Big Mishra Pedha
Big Mishra Pedha's name may suggest that it is linked to all things sweet, but did you know that they have a tangy side too?
Chaat at Big Mishra Pedha is why people flock to any Big Mishra outlet in Goa, and why we think you should head there too!
4. Chat Street
Located in close proximity to the Panjim Market, Chaat Street has been a local favourite for the longest time.
Serving all things chaat, a must-try at this little eatery by the road is the Shev Puri and Dahi Shev Puri, which are best accompanied with a glass of fresh sugarcane juice or any of the other fresh juices that are available on the menu.
5. Rasoda
Straight out of the rasoda (kitchen), the chaat at Rasoda is flavourful and always attracts its usual customers and more than just a handful of new ones alike.
The menu includes the common Bhel Puri, Shev Puri and others, but of course, all with the added Rasoda touch to it.
6. Gujarat Sweet Mart
The Kachori at Gujarat Sweet Mart (locally known as Gujarat Lodge) lives rent free in the heads of all the people who visit the place, which is situated on Goa’s 18th June Road in Panjim, and so do all the other chaat items that beckon from the menu board.
7. Roadside stalls
The best discoveries are always the unexpected ones. Apart from these eateries, stopping by roadside chaat stalls is a different feeling altogether and something that you will not regret doing.
And if you ask us, then going on a bike ride or a long drive is the best way to spot the nearest bhel-puri wala waiting for you just around the corner!
